For the position of International Secretary for FY 2023

Apply now to serve as SWANA’s International Secretary for fiscal year 2023, from July 2022 to June 2023. 

Take this critical first step that puts you on the path to serve as International President from July 2025 to June 2026. You will be making a five-year commitment that sees you advance as a SWANA Officer from Secretary to Treasurer, Vice President, President and ultimately Past President, ending your commitment in June 2027.

SWANA’s officers are at the center of efforts to grow and transform the Association and to serve the industry. By serving, you can have a genuine impact on the people and programs in the solid waste industry. 

Applications to serve as the FY2023 International Secretary position are being accepted now. To apply, submit the following information to Deputy Executive Director Sara Bixby, sbixby@swana.org, by 5:00 p.m. EST December 31.

The application packet must include the following documentation:

1. Letter of interest including a description of your vision for implementing SWANA’s strategic plan and your leadership goals as a SWANA officer
2. Professional and SWANA resume
3. A summary of your qualifications addressing your experience and abilities as follows:
1. Integrated solid waste and resource management experience
2. SWANA governance experience
3. Communication skills (public speaking, meetings management)
4. Interpersonal skills (leadership, working relationships among SWANA members and staff, consensus building)
5. Communication skills
4. Letters of support or other documentation supporting your contributions to SWANA
5. Letter of support from your state or provincial SWANA chapter
6. Letter of support from your employer, where applicable.

The Nominating Committee may choose to interview candidates before advancing a recommendation for the ballot. Review of written materials and interviews, if held, will occur in January and February 2022 and a ballot recommendation presented to the Board of Directors in March. A vote of SWANA’s full membership on the officer slate will be held in May and June 2022.
