California Recycling Commission: A National Impact

The California Commission on Recycling Markets and Curbside Recycling was established in law in 2019 and 17 commissioners were appointed by CalEPA in May 2020. They are tasked with providing consensus policy recommendations to CalRecycle and the Legislature to ensure the state meets its goals for GHG reductions, addressing contamination and curbside collection, and waste reduction/diversion mandates.

Heidi Sanborn, Executive Director of the National Stewardship Action Council was elected by the Commissioners to be chair. On this webinar Ms. Sanborn, along with several fellow commissioners representing different stakeholder groups, will share the policy recommendations under development. They will also invite anyone to submit policy suggestions to the Commission for consideration.

Measuring Municipal Program Performance In Your Jurisdiction

With the ability to participate in the Municipal Measurement Program opening up in 2017, the City was quick to join and contribute its annual data. Co-panelists from the City will address how solid waste & recycling data have been useful in making material management decisions for their community and the important role that benchmarking & standardization plays in communicating with citizens & policy makers. Re-TRAC Connect will demonstrate the comprehensive suite of analytical reports that counties & solid waste districts are using to assess municipal program performance & address their material management challenges.
