SWANA Testifies on US IRS Proposed Energy Tax Credits

SWANA testified at the February 21 hearing on the US Treasury Department Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed definition of energy property (Federal Registry Docket ID No. IRS-2023-0054).

As described in previous issues of the I Am SWANA Newsletter, there are concerns that the proposed regulations for the energy tax credits define “qualified biogas property” to exclude gas upgrading equipment used to transfer the gas into the format for injection into the pipeline.

Exclusion of upgrading equipment in the definition could limit the advancement of biogas projects so SWANA is advocating to keep it included in the definition.
